Care Guide - Keeping Your Ashford Blake Furniture Looking Its Best

Thank you for choosing Ashford Blake. Every piece we make is handcrafted with care and finished using premium materials to ensure it lasts for years to come. To help preserve the beauty and integrity of your table, desk, breakfast bar, coffee table or any other item, please follow these simple care instructions.

IMPORTANT: Please avoid cleaning or wiping down your new furniture for the first 7 days after delivery. While the finish is dry and the piece is ready for use, it requires this time to fully cure and acclimate to its new environment. Introducing moisture too soon can compromise the finish.

What to Avoid

To protect the finish, never use:

  • Chemical cleaning sprays
  • Disinfectants or antibacterial wipes
  • Standard wood polishes or silicone-based cleaners

These products can strip or damage the finish and alter the natural appearance of the wood.

How to Clean

For everyday cleaning:

  • Use a slightly damp (not wet) soft cloth – microfibre is ideal (avoid anything abrasive)
  • Add a drop of mild soap if needed
  • Gently wipe the surface, following the grain where possible
  • Immediately dry with a clean cloth if any moisture remains

For Tougher Stains

Rubio Monocoat Cleaning Kit

For more stubborn marks or a deeper clean, we recommend using the Rubio Monocoat Cleaning Kit, available to purchase on our website. It includes:

  • A specialist cleaner safe for oiled wood
  • Various stain removers for targeted use
  • A microfibre cloth
  • Instructions for safe and effective use

Outdoor Table Protection

To keep your outdoor table looking its best for years to come, we strongly recommend using a high-quality, breathable cover whenever the table is not in use—particularly during long periods of no use, such as over winter.

This helps protect it from moisture, UV rays, and temperature changes, all of which can cause premature wear, even on treated or durable wood surfaces.

A cover is a simple but effective way to preserve the finish and minimise maintenance.

A Few Final Tips

  • Always use coasters and placemats to prevent heat and moisture rings
  • Wipe up spills promptly
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or heat sources, which can cause fading or warping

Your furniture is designed to age gracefully — with the right care, it will continue to look better with time.
